FG declares September 5 public holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration

The Federal Government (FG) has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate the Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). In a press statement signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extended warm felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and worldwide.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to reflect on the virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion exemplified by the Prophet, stressing that these values are essential in building a united, prosperous, and progressive nation. He called on Nigerians to pray for the country’s peace, security, and stability, while supporting the Federal Government’s efforts in fostering national harmony and sustainable development.

The Minister emphasized that the celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers an opportunity to strengthen bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity. He also urged citizens to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and supportive of government policies aimed at ensuring the collective well-being of all Nigerians.

The Minister wished all Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration, as Nigerians prepare to mark this significant occasion.
