Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed sorrow over the death of Ozigi Asema Maiyaki, the first elected executive chairman of Adavi Local Government Area, who passed away early Wednesday at his Ogaminana residence.
In a condolence message conveyed by his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, the governor said he received the news of Adayi Ozigi Asema’s demise with deep shock. He reflected on the late chairman’s role in fostering community growth and strengthening unity within the All Progressives Congress in Adavi, where he was regarded as both a committed party figure and a respected community elder.
The statement quoted Governor Ododo as saying: “I recalled that Adayi Ozigi Asema was among the first political leaders I visited for consultation in the build up to the governorship election in 2023 and his wise counsels and support was part of the processes that led us to victory in the election especially in Adavi local government. His support will be dearly missed even as we give thanks to Almighty Allah for his leadership and service to our people during his life time.”
Governor Ododo also hailed the achievements of the late pioneer council boss, describing him as a trailblazer whose vision helped shape Adavi’s progress, particularly in infrastructure and human development.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased and urged his family, along with the people of Adavi, to take solace in the impactful legacy he leaves behind.
Ozigi Asema Maiyaki served as the first elected chairman of Adavi Local Government under the National Republican Convention (NRC) between 1991 and 1993 and remained politically active until his death at age 74.
