The Director-General of Civil Society Organisation On Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI), Kunle Yusuff, has appealed to the Director, NGO Branch, Office of Intergovernmental Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development (OISC-DESA), to consider accrediting registered Nigerian Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) for UN partnership and funding.
During a visit to the UN House at the weekend, Yusuff highlighted CSOs’ pivotal role in Climate Actions Advocacy, climate financing awareness, and SDGs implementation across Nigeria. “Accreditation will unlock global funding and UN network support for these changemakers,” he stated.
He commended Nigeria’s alignment with UN Agenda via CSO inclusion in MDAs and partnerships on SDGs, climate change, environment, education, AI, and security-civil society collaboration.
The Director-General used the opportunity to highlight the relationship between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Civil Society Organisations on Sustainable Development Goals, Climate Change, Green Great Wall, Green Environment, Basic Education, Artificial Intelligence Advocacy, and collaboration with security agencies, particularly the operational relationship between the Department of Civil Engagement in the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff and Civil Society Organisations.
Yusuff further explained that the Federal Government in Nigeria has been fulfilling the United Nations’ recommendations on the Global Agenda by nominating members of CSOs, CBOs, and NGOs to MDAs with SDGs mandates.
While urging OISC-DESA to support Nigerian CSOs/CBOs, amplifying grassroots impact, Yusuf concluded by praising President Tinubu for approving the National Committee on Climate Change Awareness chaired by the Special Assistant to the President on Climate Change Matters.
