As part of activities marking the close of 2025 and preparations for the New Year, the Special Adviser to the Wife of the Kogi State Governor on Domestic Affairs, Hon. Aliyu Ohunene Nana, has implemented a women-centred empowerment programme in the Agassa/Ateba community of Okene Local Government Area.
The initiative, which took place in Agassa, was carried out on behalf of the Wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, and formed part of her end-of-year outreach aimed at spreading hope and support to citizens across the state.
Hon. Nana said the empowerment exercise underscored the First Lady’s compassion and determination to ensure that women and other vulnerable groups remain a priority, particularly as families prepare for New Year celebrations.
She explained that the intervention was designed to cushion the effects of economic hardship, boost household stability, and promote self-reliance among women, widows, petty traders, the elderly, and persons living with special needs within the Agassa/Ateba community.
Beneficiaries received food items and cash support during the exercise, offering much-needed assistance as the year draws to an end.
According to Hon. Nana, the programme was more than a symbolic gesture, but a purposeful effort by Her Excellency to identify with the people at a crucial moment and inspire optimism for a prosperous 2026.
She urged recipients to make prudent use of the items and financial support, noting that empowerment is most meaningful when it leads to better living conditions and long-term independence.
Hon. Nana further assured the community that similar empowerment programmes would be extended to other parts of the state through her office and related initiatives.
Community leaders and beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the First Lady for the timely support, describing the gesture as a major relief and encouragement to many households.
They also offered prayers for God’s guidance, strength, and wisdom for the First Lady as she continues her humanitarian and empowerment efforts across Kogi State.
The event concluded with special prayers for the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and for sustained peace, progress, and development in Kogi State ahead of the New Year 2026.
