Organisers of the Guiness Matchday experience have commended Abuja football fans for delivering one of the most energetic atmospheres yet on the nationwide tour, following a packed live screening of Premier League fixtures at Papiee’s Meatro.

The venue was transformed into a stadium-style arena as supporters of major clubs turned out in large numbers, responding to every moment of play with cheers, chants and suspense-filled silence.

In remarks to reporters, the organisers said the Matchday platform was conceived to raise the standard of football viewing in Nigeria by “bringing fans together in a vibrant atmosphere that blends community, excitement and the bold flavour of Guinness.” They added that the initiative has grown into one of the country’s most recognisable football-centred social experiences, supported by partnerships across telecom, broadcast and entertainment.

This season’s edition includes Matchday Epic Viewing events running from October to December across key Nigerian cities, each featuring premium match screenings, live music, giveaways, influencer appearances and DJ sets.

Marketing & Innovations Director at Guinness Nigeria, Olayinka Bakare, said the Abuja turnout reaffirmed the city’s well-known passion for football. “The energy here is phenomenal—so positive, vibrant and full of excitement. Abuja fans have a deep love for football, and with Guinness in the mix, the joy becomes even more infectious,” he said.

Bakare noted that the broader aim of the initiative is to bring stadium-style experiences directly to fans nationwide. “Not everyone can attend an EPL match, so we bring the stadium to them—giant screens, music, DJs, fan interactions and that electric atmosphere that makes football unforgettable,” he said.

Brand Manager Odinakachi Njoku added that the organisation is focused on delivering matchday excitement that blends global standards with local flavour. “Every matchday is an opportunity for fans to enjoy great football with an ice-cold Guinness,” she said. “Beyond these epic events, we also activate smaller Matchday Moments in bars nationwide, ensuring every fan—everywhere—can experience that special football atmosphere.”
