A group, Yobe East Solidarity Movement, has called on Sen. Ibrahim Bomoi to contest the forthcoming 2027 governorship election in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bomoi, the Chairman, Senate Committee on FCT, is a ranking senator representing Yobe South at the Senate.
The group made the call during a seminar and inauguration of its executive members in Damaturu on Saturday.
Speaking at the occasion, the Group’s Leader, Alhaji Abba Geidam, noted that Bomoi’s visionary leadership and impactful representation necessitated the call.
He listed the senator’s achievements to include the construction of about 30 kilometres roads in each of the five local government areas of his constituency and the sponsorship of Fika-Gadaka and Potiskum water supply projects.
“ In 2025, distinguished Bomoi provided foreign scholarship to 51 youths to pursue degrees and masters in India under his Overseas Scholarship Scheme.
“ He has facilitated supply of electricity transformers, installation of solar-powered street lights, enhanced public safety, invested in capacity building and skills acquisition.
“ The Senator has provided financial grants and business supports across wards and communities and his humanitarian interventions, including food relief palliatives and community supports, have restored dignity and hope to vulnerable households,” Geidam said.
Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, an ardent supporter of Bomoi, said the Senator had the experience and quality to take the state to greater heights, having put in 35 years of civil service before joining politics after his retirement.
“ In the last six years that Bomoi spent in the Senate, his achievements have already surpassed that some senators from the state who have been in the senate for so long,” he said.
Mohammed said it was morally right for Bomoi to contest the election as since 1999, only the northern part of the state had produced governors, with the exception of former Gov. Mamman Ali, who died after 20 months in service in 2007.
“ It will only be fair to give Zone B the opportunity to complete the tenure of Mamman Ali, which abruptly ended in tragedy. I am totally in support of this call,”
