Pope Leo XIV hs condemned the recent violent attacks on communities in Nigeria, as gunmen killed about 162 people, one of the deadliest incidents in recent months.
The pontiff in a post on X on Sunday, offered prayers for the victims and called on authorities to strengthen security architecture in the country.
“It is with sorrow and concern that I learned of the recent attacks against various communities in Nigeria leading to a heavy loss of life. I express my prayerful closeness to all the victims of violence and terrorism. I likewise hope that the competent Authorities will continue to work with determination to ensure the safety and protection of the life of every citizen.

The deadly assault reportedly occurred in Woro village, Kwara State, shortly after the military conducted operations in the area against what it described as “terrorist elements.”
During the attack, gunmen reportedly burned shops and the home of a traditional ruler, forcing wounded residents to flee into nearby bushes.
