The renewed offensive comes on the heels of recent defensive engagements in Pulka and Madara-Girau, as the military shifts focus toward what it describes as “logistics strangulation operations” designed to cut off supply routes and financial lifelines sustaining insurgent activities in the region.

Security sources said that on February 16, 2026, troops of Sector 1, working alongside local vigilante forces, carried out a coordinated night ambush along a known crossing route used by elements of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) moving from the Cameroon axis into Nigeria.

The insurgents reportedly walked into a concealed military position and came under heavy enfilade fire, forcing them to retreat in confusion. Although casualty figures were not immediately disclosed, troops subsequently exploited the area and recovered a cache of logistics supplies believed to be intended for terrorist resupply operations.

Military authorities said the interception has significantly disrupted the insurgents’ sustainment capacity and operational reach in the area.

Troops have since maintained control of the general area while continuing follow-up exploitation operations to consolidate the gains.

In a related development, soldiers deployed at the Forward Operating Base, Chabbal Checkpoint, intercepted a suspicious vehicle conveying five occupants. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately Thirty-Seven Million Naira (₦37,000,000.00) concealed in bags.

Multiple mobile phones were also recovered, with security officials suspecting that the funds and devices may be connected to terrorist financing and coordination activities within the theatre of operations. The suspects are currently undergoing investigation.

Military sources described the interception as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle financial conduits believed to be supporting terrorist logistics and operations across the North-East.

The latest actions highlight a broader strategy by Operation HADIN KAI to tighten pressure on insurgent networks by targeting both their physical movement corridors and financial enablers. Analysts say the approach reflects a deliberate effort to weaken terrorist elements from within and restrict their ability to regenerate combat power.

The Military High Command commended the troops and collaborating security agencies for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring lasting peace and economic stability in the North-East.
