The National Sports Council (NSC) Chairman, Dr. Shehu Dikko, has promised technical support for the Nigerian Electric Supply Industry (NESI) games, aligning with the Commission’s objectives and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are ready to give full support and provide technical assistance to make sure that the NESI games holds successfully,” Dikko said.
Dr. Anthony Obiora, Chairman of the NESI Week Steering Committee, stated that the NESI Games is the first nationally structured sporting event for the Nigerian electricity supply industry, aiming to promote workforce wellness, leadership development, and national sports development.
“The NESI Games is designed to promote workforce wellness, foster collaborations among sectors, leadership development, and most importantly, it’s also a way to boost our sports economy,” Obiora said.
The games will feature nine sports, including football, athletics, volleyball, and e-sports, with athletes drawn from the NESI ecosystem.
The event will be held in phases, with regional qualifiers, quarterfinals, and the national finals scheduled for November 15-20, 2026, at the National Stadium in Abuja.
Dikko urged the Steering Committee to develop sports facilities in their area of operation and encourage members to contribute to community development through sports.
“You need to also encourage your members to add value to their area of operation,” he said.
Obiora expressed confidence that the event would be a success with the backing of stakeholders, including the NSC.
“We want to align whatever we’re doing with the National Sports Commission,” he said.
The NSC Chairman’s support is expected to boost, the success of the NESI Games, which aims to bring together stakeholders in the Nigerian electricity supply industry. Obiora thanked Dikko for the assurance of support, saying “This is the backing we need and we are also sure that with the support of other stakeholders, yes, this might be the first time, but we also already have experiences in sports development and sports organizations.”
The NESI Games is a significant step towards promoting sports development in Nigeria, and the NSC’s support will contribute to its success.
The event will showcase talents from the NESI ecosystem and promote community development through sports.
