The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has concluded arrangements to join other member countries in commemorating this year’s World Civil Defence Day (WCDD) on March 1, 2026, with the theme: “Managing Environmental Risks for a Resilient and Sustainable Future.” This was contained in a press release signed and made available to media houses by ACC Babawale Afolabi, PRO NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja on Friday.
Although the day is traditionally observed on March 1, this year’s grand finale will take place on February 27, 2026, at the National Headquarters, as March 1 falls on a Sunday.
The NSCDC Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has approved a comprehensive lineup of activities to mark the occasion, including a Jumat Service, Commemoration Service, Inter-Directorate Competition, Match and Tug-of-War Competition, Anniversary Lecture, and Inauguration of New Projects.
Other activities include a Grand Finale Celebration, Boodle Fight (Communal Feast), and other events, which will be observed by all Zonal Commanders, Commandants of Civil Defence Colleges, State Commandants, and Commanders of all formations within their respective Area of Responsibility (AoR).
The NSCDC has expressed unwavering commitment and determination to the protection of lives and safeguarding of critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as disaster mitigation and management.
The grand finale of the World Civil Defence Day 2026 will be hosted by the Commandant General at the NSCDC National Headquarters Parade Ground in Abuja, with all principal management officers and dignitaries in attendance.
The International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) has directed member countries to observe the day, and the NSCDC is committed to fulfilling its obligations.
The commemoration is expected to foster the protection of civil populations and ensure a disaster-free environment, in line with the theme of this year’s celebration.
