The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the deceased’s body was found in the bush on Wednesday.

She was reported to have gone to gather vegetables when she was accosted, assaulted and killed.

Olayinka said a good Samaritan discovered the woman’s lifeless body in a bush path within the community and reported the incident to the police.

“We immediately deployed our personnel to the scene, where the lifeless body of the woman was found in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck.

“Findings by our detectives revealed that the corpse had been at the location for at least seven days prior to its discovery.

“Investigations conducted by the police led to the arrest of the two suspects,” says the spokesman.

According to him, the suspects are in the custody of the state CID and are assisting with ongoing investigations, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend any other accomplices.

Olayinka said that the unfortunate development initially triggered protests by aggrieved family members and sympathisers within the community.

He, however, said the situation was brought under control through the timely intervention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ido Division, in collaboration with the council’s management.

Olayinka said that the state Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has ordered the deployment of police personnel to maintain public order, strengthen visibility policing, and reassure residents of their safety.
