The National Assembly has postponed the resumption of its plenary session, which was initially scheduled to hold on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. In a statement signed on Tuesday, by Kamoru Ogunlana, Esq., Clerk to the National Assembly, the postponement is to enable committees of the assembly to conclude ongoing budget defence sessions.
The new date for the resumption of plenary has been set for Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members of the National Assembly have been requested to take note of the new resumption date and time.
However, while the leadership of the National Assembly says that it regrets any inconvenience the postponement may have caused and appreciates the understanding of its members, the postponement, according to the statement is seen as a necessary step to ensure that the assembly’s committees are able to complete their work on the budget defence sessions, which is a critical aspect of the legislative process.
The National Assembly had been on recess, and the resumption of plenary was expected to mark the beginning of a new legislative agenda. The postponement is likely to push back some of the planned activities, but it is expected to ensure that the assembly is able to discharge its duties effectively.
Members of the National Assembly are expected to return on the new date and resumption time of March 5 and 11 am respectively, in order to tackle the legislative agenda, including the budget defence sessions and other pressing issues.
