As the world marks the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State Chapter, has called on government, institutions, and the general public to intensify collective efforts toward advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls.
This year’s International Women’s Day is celebrated under the theme “Give to Gain,” which emphasizes the importance of investing in women through opportunities, support, mentorship, and resources in order to achieve broader social and economic progress for society.
The theme highlights that when women are supported and empowered, communities, economies, and nations thrive.
NAWOJ Kaduna state in a statement signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Sahura Jibril Maidoki and Hadiza Bello Abdullahi noted that the theme serves as a timely reminder that meaningful progress in gender equality requires deliberate actions from individuals, organizations, and governments to support women’s leadership, education, economic inclusion, and protection from discrimination and violence.
The association therefore urged policymakers and stakeholders to prioritize gender-responsive policies that expand women’s access to education, economic opportunities, healthcare, and leadership positions.
NAWOJ also emphasized the need to strengthen mechanisms that protect women and girls from gender-based violence while promoting inclusive participation in governance and decision-making processes.
The association further reaffirmed the critical role of the media in promoting gender-sensitive reporting, amplifying the voices and achievements of women, and advocating for policies that support the advancement of women and girls across all sectors.
NAWOJ Kaduna State Chapter also encouraged women to continue supporting one another, building networks, and actively participating in civic and leadership spaces in order to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development in the state and the nation.
“As the world celebrates the resilience, achievements, and contributions of women, NAWOJ Kaduna State congratulates women across Kaduna State and Nigeria and calls for renewed commitment to building a more just, inclusive, and equitable society for all,” the statement concluded.
