Aneke gave the assurance when he led senior Air officers on a visit to the commission at its headquarters, Tuesday in Abuja.

Speaking during the meeting, the air chief reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to supporting INEC in the transportation of election materials and ensuring security during the electoral process.
“The successful conduct of elections is closely tied to effective security arrangements and efficient logistics management. Over the years, the Nigerian Air Force has remained a dependable partner to INEC, particularly in providing security support as well as rapid airlift for the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials across the country,” Aneke said.
He assured the commission that the Air Force remains prepared to provide logistical support whenever required.
“I wish to assure you that the Nigerian Air Force remains willing, able and ready to continue providing such support whenever required,” he said.
Aneke disclosed that some of the Air Force’s C-130 aircraft were currently undergoing scheduled maintenance abroad as part of efforts to sustain its strategic airlift capacity, but noted that alternative aircraft would be deployed to ensure uninterrupted support to electoral operations.
“Some of our C-130 aircraft are undergoing scheduled maintenance outside the country, but the service is making arrangements to deploy other available aircraft that can support the timely movement of electoral materials and personnel,” he added.
Beyond logistics, the Chief of the Air Staff said the Air Force was also preparing to deploy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities to enhance election security.
“In this regard, the Nigerian Air Force is positioning some of its intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities to enhance situational awareness during the electoral period,” he said, noting that such assets could help detect potential threats early and support timely responses by relevant security agencies.
He further stated that the Air Force would collaborate with other security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, to protect electoral infrastructure such as INEC facilities, collation centres and logistics hubs across the country.
Aneke also commended the INEC chairman for reforms introduced since assuming office in October 2025, particularly efforts to improve inclusiveness in the electoral process.
“We have observed a renewed emphasis on institutional reforms, staff welfare and measures aimed at enhancing the inclusiveness of the electoral process,” he said, describing the introduction of sign language interpreters at polling units as a commendable step toward improving participation of persons with disabilities.
In his response, INEC Chairman Amupitan expressed appreciation for the support the Air Force has consistently provided to the commission in past elections.
“Your efforts have played a crucial role in facilitating a smooth electoral process and reinforcing our collective commitment to safeguarding our democracy,” he said.
Amupitan also disclosed that under the revised timetable for the 2027 general elections, presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections are scheduled for February 16, 2027.
According to him, the commission plans to strengthen its collaboration with the military, particularly in the area of logistics.
“An election can only be as good as its logistics,” Amupitan said. “We recognise the expertise of the Air Force in logistics and security operations, and we look forward to working closely with you to overcome some of the challenges we have experienced in the past.”
He added that INEC would soon set up a joint team with the Air Force to coordinate preparations ahead of upcoming off-cycle elections and the 2027 general elections.
