The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has rallied delegates from the North Central geopolitical zone to endorse President Bola Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election.

The endorsement came on Wednesday at the North Central Zonal Congress of the APC held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, where party leaders and stakeholders gathered to chart a unified path for the region ahead of the polls.

According to a statement by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, the motion for Tinubu’s adoption was moved by Akume and seconded by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, receiving overwhelming support from delegates at the congress.

The event drew a strong presence of political stakeholders, including serving governors from the zone, former governors and their deputies, lawmakers at both national and state levels, ministers, and other key figures within the party.

Addressing the gathering, Akume said the endorsement underscored the confidence party members have in Tinubu’s leadership and his administration’s efforts to reposition the country for sustainable growth.

He noted that his role as North Central leader of the APC comes with the responsibility of fostering unity and ensuring alignment among party stakeholders, particularly as the next general election approaches.

Reaffirming the zone’s loyalty to the party, Akume pledged continued support for policies and programmes aimed at economic recovery, infrastructure expansion, and national integration.

He urged members of the party to remain united and focused, stressing that early consensus on Tinubu’s candidacy would strengthen the APC’s chances and allow it to concentrate on governance.

“The North Central has played a vital role in preserving the unity of this country. Nigerians are proud of you, and we must also take pride in ourselves. With the calibre of leaders assembled here, the zone is poised to deliver the highest votes among the six geopolitical zones,” he said.

Delegates at the congress welcomed the endorsement with enthusiasm, describing it as a strategic move to reinforce party cohesion and ensure continuity in leadership.
