The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decision to donate his salary to the Armed Forces of Nigeria on the occasion of his birthday.
It said, as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, the gesture is noble and highly commendable.
PFN also condemn the attacks and killings in Anguwan Rukuba Area of Jos, Plateau state and Kahir community in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna state and urged the government to do everything possible to end the killings and ensure the security of all citizens.
PFN in a statement signed it’s National Secretary, Bishop David Bakare said, “In view of the immense sacrifices made daily by members of the Armed Forces, many of whom pay the ultimate price for the safety and security of our nation, such an act of generosity deserves recognition and appreciation from all Nigerians.
“While we sincerely applaud this gesture, the Fellowship respectfully encourages the President to take an additional step by considering the donation of his allowances alongside his salary, particularly as it remains unclear whether these allowances are included in the current donation.
“Furthermore, in the interest of transparency and public accountability, it is important that the total value of the donation be clearly stated.”
The statement noted that, “Nigerians deserve to know the exact amount involved, covering the period from the commencement of his administration to date.”
Beyond this commendable act, the PFN drew the attention of president Tinubu to the pressing economic challenges currently facing Nigerians.
“The global situation, especially the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, has had significant adverse effects on pump prices of fuel petrol and diesel.”
This, he said, has further worsened the living conditions of citizens, resulting in increased transportation costs, rising food prices, and the high cost of essential commodities and services.
“Nigerians have continued to grapple with hardship following the removal of fuel subsidy, and the situation has been further exacerbated by developments in the Middle East.
“While these global dynamics are understood, there is an urgent need for deliberate and compassionate intervention by the President.
“As the father of the nation, the PFN urges the Federal Government to introduce a comprehensive safety net to cushion the effects of the current economic hardship on citizens.
“Just as members of the Armed Forces require support for their sacrifices, ordinary Nigerians facing severe economic strain also need urgent relief and assistance.
“It would be a meaningful and impactful gesture if, on the occasion of his birthday, the President extends this act of generosity to the entire nation by announcing concrete measures aimed at alleviating the suffering of Nigerians.
“Such an initiative would indeed stand as a memorable and compassionate birthday offering to the people,” the statement added.
