Security forces tighten grip in Jos, arrest suspects, recover arms

By Chuks Oyema-Aziken

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have intensified security operations across the Jos metropolis, carrying out coordinated stop-and-search exercises to stem rising tensions in Jos North and adjoining communities.

The Friday operation focused on identified flashpoints and key transit corridors, including Jos North and Jos South, as well as Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-Cost Housing Estate. The move, according to security sources, is part of sustained efforts to restore order and ensure the protection of lives and property across Plateau State.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, confirmed that troops arrested two suspects during the exercise and recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a pump-action firearm, and a cutlass.

In a separate development, troops swiftly responded to reports of sporadic gunfire at the Yelwa Cattle Market area in Shendam. The assailants fled into nearby bushes on sighting the advancing security personnel.

A follow-up sweep of the area led to the rescue of two residents who sustained gunshot injuries. They were promptly evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment.

Military authorities reaffirmed their resolve to sustain a robust security presence across Plateau State, noting that operations will continue with renewed intensity until lasting peace and stability are achieved.
