Bauchi Police Arrest 60 Years Old Man For Alleged Defilement Of Minor

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 60 year old man for alleged defilement of a 9 year old minor in Magama Gumau, Toro LGA of the state.

A statement issued to newsmen by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said that 47 years old father of the victim reported the incident to the police.

According to the statement, the father of the victim said that the suspect, one Musa Garba, of the same address, allegedly lured his daughter to a hideout on 7th of this month and committed the act.

Acting on the report, detectives apprehended the suspect, who voluntarily confessed to have committed the offence during interrogation.

The suspect further disclosed that he had previously committed similar acts against the victim at multiple occasions at different locations.

The statement said that both the victim and the suspect were taken to General hospital, Toro, for medical examination and attention.

It said that in the course of the investigation, the victim also alleged that another suspect identified only as Nafiu, of the same address, is currently at large in connection with a separate incident involving the victim.

“The arrested suspect has been transferred to the state criminal investigation department, SCID, Bauchi, for discrete investigation and prosecution, while efforts are on going to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

“The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act in strong terms and reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance on crimes against children and sexual and gender-based violence.

“He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police,” the statement concluded.
