The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, is set to present the Federal Government’s education reform agenda and outline the achievements, challenges and future direction of the sector under President Bola Tinubu’s administration at the 2026 Education Summit in Abuja.
The summit, organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN), will hold on Wednesday, July 15, at Barcelona Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja, under the theme: “Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress, and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector.”
The event is expected to provide a comprehensive review of the administration’s education policies over the past three years, bringing together key stakeholders to evaluate ongoing reforms and identify practical solutions to persistent challenges facing the sector.
ECAN, the umbrella body of accredited journalists covering the education sector across print, broadcast and online media platforms, said the summit will attract policymakers, education experts, academics, development partners, school administrators, researchers, civil society organisations, student representatives and media professionals.
In a statement issued on Monday, ECAN Chairman, Mr. Chux Ukwuatu, said the gathering would serve as a platform for constructive policy engagement and meaningful dialogue aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s education system.
He added that the event would also recognise outstanding individuals and institutions whose contributions have significantly advanced education and human capital development in the country.
According to the statement, Dr. Alausa will formally declare the summit open, while several distinguished education leaders will receive awards for their exceptional service and leadership.
Among those billed for recognition are the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu; the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Echono; the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi; the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede; the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, among others.
ECAN said the honours are in recognition of the recipients’ visionary leadership, remarkable contributions to educational development and unwavering commitment to advancing human capital development in Nigeria.
