Protecting Benue lives is my obligation -Gov. Alia

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has assured the people of Benue State of his determination to ensure the people of Benue State are safe and their lands protected.

The Governor stated this on Tuesday at Otukpo where he visited to commiserate with the people, following recent attacks by suspected armed herders at Akpachi and Otukpo-Nobi communities.

The two communities came under attacks allegedly carried out by suspected heavily armed Fulani herders in the early hours of Sunday when community members were fast asleep. At least 18 persons, including women and children, were among the dead.

Governor Alia charged the people to always be vigilant to identify suspicious moves and alert the relevant authorities to nip in the bud, potential attacks.

“I have done so much in providing the needed logistics, motivation as well as complemented the strength of the security forces. I will not rest but continue until terrorists are flushed out of the state”.

He also visited the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo where victims of the attacks who sustained various degrees of injuries were undergoing treatment, and directed comprehensive treatment at the instance of the state government.

At the Ochi’Idoma Palace, the Governor who sympathised with the paramount ruler, His Royal Majesty Agaba’Idu Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John, said, “it is my obligation to protect all lives in the state and I am assuring we shall never rest on our oars until peace fully return to our communities”.
