Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), has reaffirmed that the Commission remains focused on preparations for the 2027 General Election even as it concludes arrangements for the forthcoming Osun State governorship poll.
Amupitan gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving a delegation of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) resident in Plateau State, led by Pius A. Akubo (SAN), who paid him a congratulatory visit at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja following his appointment as INEC chairman.
The INEC chairman appealed to Nigerians, particularly members of the legal profession, to continue supporting and praying for the Commission as it prepares to discharge its constitutional responsibilities during the forthcoming elections.
He also commended the National Commissioners, the Secretary to the Commission, directors and technical aides for their dedication, describing them as the “generals” behind the Commission’s recent successes.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Akubo described Amupitan’s appointment as a landmark achievement for the North-Central region and Nigeria’s democratic process.
He presented a congratulatory card to the INEC chairman and prayed for wisdom, strength and divine guidance as he leads the electoral body.
Responding, Amupitan thanked the Plateau SANs for the visit, describing them as members of his extended professional family.
He also paid tribute to several deceased senior advocates from Plateau State, saying their passing represented a significant loss to the legal profession and the country.
