The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has set a target of completing and commissioning at least 10 major infrastructure projects across the nation’s capital before the 2027 general elections.
Wike disclosed this after inspecting the Tunga Madaki-Zuba axis, and other road projects on Wednesday.
Particularly, he commended the progress on the construction of six box culverts on the project, saying five had already been completed, while the remaining one was expected to be delivered before the end of 2026.
The minister commended contractor handling the project for its capacity, despite receiving less than 30 per cent mobilisation for the capital-intensive project
Wike assured the contractors handling FCT projects that the administration would continue to meet its financial obligations, stressing that timely payments were necessary to sustain the pace of construction and ensure delivery within agreed timelines.
According to him, the projects form part of the infrastructure schemes flagged off during the administration’s third anniversary and are expected to be completed, commissioned and handed over before the 2027 elections.
The minister said he would sustain inspections of ongoing projects across the territory, adding that two more projects were scheduled for inspection on Thursday.
Wike explained that the development is part of the FCT Administration’s intensified drive to accelerate road, drainage and other infrastructure projects across Abuja, with Wike repeatedly directing contractors to meet completion deadlines.
“I have so much confidence in them that they’ll keep to their promise. I’m not afraid.
“By the end of the year, we would have had at least up to 10 projects, as promised, lined up for commissioning before the general election,” he said.
