The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, has commended the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, for his excellent performance in the state and his hospitality and support for Borno indigenes residing in Kebbi State.
The Shehu stated this when the Kebbi State Government media team, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, paid homage to him at his palace in Maiduguri.
He said Governor Idris has great respect for him and has taken very good care of him and other Borno indigenes living in Kebbi, describing the governor as “an excellent person” and a leader worthy of emulation.
“I say it everywhere that my governor and the Governor of Kebbi have taken very good care of me. I don’t have any problem. You have to thank him on my behalf,” the monarch said.
The Shehu added that the prestigious traditional title of Zanan Borno, conferred on Governor Idris, was well deserved because of his good leadership, generosity and cordial relationship with the people of Borno.
He expressed appreciation to the governor for accepting the title and said the emirate would, Insha Allah, invite Governor Idris to a grand ceremony where governors, traditional rulers, district and village heads, friends and other dignitaries from Borno and other states would be in attendance.
The Shehu also extended greetings and appreciation to the Emir of Gwandu, the Emir of Argungu and the late Emir of Zuru, retired General Sani Sami, noting the longstanding cordial relationship between the traditional institutions.
The monarch traced the historical ties among the Borno, Sokoto and Gwandu emirates. He explained that Borno State has 27 local government areas, 16 of which are under his emirate, as well as 59 district heads, seven emirs, 596 village heads and thousands of ward heads.
Reflecting on the past, the Shehu lamented the devastating impact of insurgency in Borno State. He said the Boko Haram insurgency was not indigenous to the state and expressed concern over the loss of traditional and community leaders, insecurity in Maiduguri and the wider disruption caused by the insurgency.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, told the Shehu that the delegation was at the palace to pay homage before embarking on an advocacy visit to key institutions and important projects in Borno State.
He explained that the Kebbi State Government media team had recently visited Abuja, Kano and Lagos to strengthen collaboration with major media organisations and showcase the achievements recorded by the administration of Governor Nasir Idris in its three years in office.
The Commissioner was accompanied by the governor’s media aides, including Alhaji Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity; Alhaji Aliyu Bandado Argungu, Special Adviser on New Media; Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Jombali, Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation; Alhaji Abubakar Idris Zuru, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication; and Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
