The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has charged the FCT All Progressives Congress (APC) women leadership to reconcile aggrieved members and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mahmoud, who gave the charge when she received the FCT APC Woman Leader, Mrs. Farida Suleiman, and members of her executive committee on a courtesy visit in her office on Thursday, said the party must not take victory for granted.
She specifically urged APC women leaders to reach out to members who feel alienated or abandoned, stressing that a stronger and more united party was essential to securing victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in 2027.
A statement issued on Thursday by Special Assistant on media to minister, Austine Elemue, said Mahmoud office was ready to work with the party’s women leadership to ensure that women across the six Area Councils were carried along in efforts to strengthen the party.
She said the APC already possessed the capacity and commitment required to deliver victory for Tinubu, but added that greater grassroots mobilisation, empowerment and inclusive engagement were necessary.
Mahmoud said the transformation taking place in the FCT under President Tinubu’s administration, with the support of FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, was visible in infrastructure and other sectors.
She, however, stressed that government must also deepen efforts to improve the lives of residents across the six Area Councils.
According to her, women remained critical to the success of the APC, adding that their effective participation, alongside men, would be crucial to advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda and delivering an electoral victory for the party from top to bottom in 2027.
She urged APC women leaders to deploy their experience and extensive grassroots networks to strengthen the party ahead of the elections.
Responding, the FCT APC Woman Leader, Mrs. Farida Suleiman, pledged the commitment of APC women across the Territory to mobilise support for President Tinubu and all APC candidates in 2027.
Suleiman acknowledged the projects and interventions of the Tinubu administration in the FCT, saying the President deserved stronger electoral support from the nation’s capital.
She, however, warned that victory would require deliberate grassroots mobilisation, empowerment, engagement and sustained interaction with residents.
“All is not well politically,” Suleiman said, urging party leaders to move beyond assumptions and take their campaigns and engagements to communities across the Territory.
She called for town hall meetings, community engagements and greater empathy in communicating government policies to residents.
Suleiman described Mahmoud as a mother, politician and leader with the capacity and integrity to lead FCT APC women to victory in 2027, pledging their support under her leadership.
