The Ebonyi State Ministry of Information has showcased the achievements of the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), calling for intensified public awareness and effective communication of government policies and programmes.
The call was made at a two-day workshop on Strategic Citizens’ Engagement, Sensitisation and Showcasing of the Achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, held at Remeritona Hotel, Abakaliki.
The workshop was organised by the Ebonyi State Ministry of Information in collaboration with Iykon Global Foundation.
Representing Governor Nwifuru at the event, the Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Obila, said the workshop was necessary to create greater awareness of the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
She noted that the administration had recorded significant achievements in critical sectors, including infrastructure, education, local and overseas scholarship programmes, and human capital development.
The Deputy Governor urged media organisations, social media platforms and citizens to actively participate in disseminating information on the programmes and achievements of the administration.
She stressed that effective communication and citizens’ participation were essential to ensuring that government initiatives reached the intended beneficiaries and received wider public understanding.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information, Barrister Ikeuwa Omebe, called for greater partnership and collaboration among the electronic, print and social media to enhance the coverage and reportage of government activities.
Omebe said stronger cooperation among media practitioners would promote wider dissemination of government policies, programmes and achievements across the state.
The Executive Director of Iykon Global Foundation, Ambassador Eupraim Iyke Nwonu, said the organisation had conducted a statewide survey aimed at providing factual and verifiable evidence of the achievements of the administration.
According to him, the survey was designed to ensure that evidence-based information and pictorial documentation of government projects and programmes were made available in the public domain.
In a separate interview, the Head of Service, Dr RitaMary Okoro, reiterated the importance of evidence-based reportage.
She urged media practitioners and other stakeholders to rely on facts, figures and verifiable information presented during the workshop when reporting the activities and achievements of government.
The workshop was attended by government officials, media practitioners, religious and traditional leaders, representatives of non-governmental organisations, as well as women, youth and student leaders, among other stakeholders.
