The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday, October 6, brief Nigerians on its preparations for the 2027 General Election as the electoral process enters the final 100-day countdown to the presidential and National Assembly polls.
The commission said its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, will lead the World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting scheduled to hold in Abuja, where updates will be provided on the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being put in place to safeguard the integrity of the elections.
The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for February 20, 2027, according to INEC’s published timetable.
The commission, in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, said the meeting was part of its commitment to transparency, public communication and engagement with stakeholders ahead of the polls.
The event will bring together political party leaders, security agencies operating under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations, election observer groups and disability rights advocates.
Also expected are religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives.
The meeting comes as INEC continues preparations for the 2027 elections, including work on the voters’ register and other critical components of the electoral process. The commission has previously identified the integrity of the register as central to public confidence in the elections.
According to INEC, the Tuesday event will begin at 10 a.m., with guests expected to be seated by the scheduled commencement time.
The venue is the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre (BAT-ICC), Abuja.
Attendance is strictly by invitation, while accredited media representatives and invited guests are required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
The commission said the event would be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed on its official social media platforms.
The national stakeholders’ meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the electoral commission and key actors to assess preparations and communicate critical information to the public as the country moves closer to the 2027 polls.
