First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on families, communities, leaders and policymakers to protect the rights of girls, end child marriage and invest in their education, health and overall well-being.
Tinubu made the call in her message to mark the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, observed on Sunday, October 11, under the theme, “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights.”
She said the occasion provided an opportunity to celebrate the voices, strength, potential and leadership of girls everywhere.
According to the First Lady, every girl deserves the freedom to learn, grow and pursue her dreams without discrimination, violence or harmful practices that could limit her future.
She urged stakeholders to take deliberate steps to safeguard the rights of girls and create an environment where they can thrive and fulfil their potential.
“When girls thrive, families prosper, communities grow stronger and nations advance,” she said.
