2027: Leave your re-election campaign to us, Uzodimma tells Tinubu

  • Asks President to focus on governance instead

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has urged President Bola Tinubu to concentrate on governance and leave the task of securing his re-election in 2027 to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, lawmakers and grassroots political structures.

Uzodimma, who is the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Secretary of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said the party’s leaders had a responsibility to mobilise voters and communicate the achievements of the Tinubu administration ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.

He spoke on Wednesday at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja.

According to him, the campaign should not distract the President from implementing the economic reforms and policies initiated by his administration.

“An election season has a way of consuming everything around it, and there will be no shortage of people who would like to see you spend the next three months responding to every distraction on the campaign trail.

“We would ask that you do not allow it to distract you from governance. The reforms you began need your full attention if they are to deliver everything they promise. Please, Your Excellency, leave the heavy lifting of this campaign to us”, Uzodimma said.

He stressed that the APC had the political structures required to take the campaign to every part of the country, from the state level down to local government areas, wards and polling units.

The governor explained that the Presidential Campaign Council would coordinate the campaign nationally, while governors would lead activities in their respective states, council chairmen would mobilise at the grassroots, and legislators would engage voters in their constituencies.

Party executives and members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, he added, would work through the party’s structures to explain the administration’s policies and achievements to Nigerians.

“Our responsibility is to make sure it reaches every corner of the country, and that no Nigerian first hears about your record from those who would rather misrepresent it,” he said.

Uzodimma called on APC leaders to intensify grassroots mobilisation, insisting that the party’s electoral success would depend on its ability to deliver individual polling units and wards.
