Matawalle gifts eight Zamfara lawmakers SUVs after U-turn on APC defection

Former Zamfara State Governor and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has presented eight sports utility vehicles (SUVs) to state lawmakers who reversed their decision to leave the All Progressives Congress and pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The lawmakers reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC after Matawalle intervened to strengthen the party’s position in Zamfara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Matawalle’s Personal Assistant on Media, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The statement said the vehicles were presented to the lawmakers following their decision to remain in the ruling party and support Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Representing the minister at the handover ceremony, Hon. Yazid Shehu Danfulani said the gesture fulfilled Matawalle’s promise to work closely with the legislators.

He said the initiative was part of the minister’s efforts to empower the lawmakers and strengthen unity within the APC in Zamfara.

Danfulani added that Matawalle remained committed to supporting the legislators and ensuring their well-being.

According to him, the eight lawmakers will also be integrated into the Tinubu Again Movement, a political platform established to mobilise support for the President’s re-election.

He said the legislators would work with other party stakeholders to galvanise grassroots support for Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

The beneficiaries are Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South; Ibrahim Tukur Bakura, Bakura; Faruk Musa Dosara, Maradun I; Bashir Abubakar Masama, Bukkuyum North; Mukhtar Nasiru Kaura, Kaura North; Nasiru Abdullahi, Maru North; Bashar Bello, Bungudu West; and Bashar Aliyu, Gummi I.

The presentation followed a meeting facilitated by Matawalle between the lawmakers and Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on October 18, 2026.

During the meeting, the legislators reaffirmed their support for the President’s re-election bid, pledged to work for the success of other APC candidates and declared their intention to remain in the party.

Speaking on behalf of the lawmakers, Kagara thanked Matawalle for his intervention and pledged continued cooperation with the minister.

He said the legislators would work with Matawalle and other party stakeholders to mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The development comes as political alignments and mobilisation efforts gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party leaders seeking to consolidate their support bases across the states.
