FG moves to halt substandard projects

The Federal Ministry of Works and  Housing has begun moves to halt execution of projects below standards across the country by engineers.


In a statement issued by Director Press and Public Relations, Boade Akinola on Tuesday, said the ministry had initiated a four days training for engineers supervising various projects for the Ministry nationwide.
It explained that the training is in highways’ materials, geometrics, quality control tests and application of tests results in pavement structural design, geometric design and bridge design.


 According to the statement, Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Engineer Chukwunwike Uzo said the training was aimed at keeping the Ministry’s engineers in touch with the necessary knowledge that will assist  them effectively supervise contractors handling the projects deliver quality work to the country.  

Uzo emphasized the need for an Engineer to be sound such that he will be able to work in any part of the world, stressing the need for engineers to be able to interpret test results and determine the appropriate

application. The director, who was represented by the Director Highways materials, geotechnics and quality control, Engineer Osita Ezedozie, enjoined staff to make the best use of the training opportunity to enhance their productivity on the job.


He assured that the Ministry would continue to provide staff with the necessary incentives to bring out the best in them, adding that subsequent training programmes would be better. In his remarks, the Director Highways Design and Road construction, Engineer Omotayo Awosanya commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration for prioritizing Infrastructure development and called on the engineers of the Ministry to ensure that Nigerians get quality roads that correspond with the quantum of funds being invested in the Ministry. 


Awosanya warned against giving approval for test results of materials without checking properly to ensure that the right quality had been met, reminding the participants that Nigerians are looking up to the Ministry for Quality roads and advised them to avoid anything that will bring them to disrepute.
