The chairman Abuja Municipal Area council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, said over 1,000 children and women have received free malaria treatment, immunization and COVID-19 vaccination in the first phase of its medical outreach programme.
He disclosed this during the flag-off of free medical services, yesterday in Kurudu, a suburb of the Area council.
Maikalangu, who was represented by his vice, Hon. Nasiru Usman, said the exercise is part of the dividends of democracy he promised AMAC residents during his campaigns in 2022.
“We are providing free medical healthcare to over 1,000 children and women of this community, including immunization, COVID-19 vaccination, free malaria testing and meditation, HIV testing and counseling, family planning, eye screening and other medical services rendered by medical doctors and nurses.
“This is in fulfilment of our promises to the residents during campaigns in 2022”.
Maikalangu also implored civil society organisations and non governmental organisations to replicate the gesture by bringing initiative to every village and community in AMAC.
“This is the first self-sponsored local medical outreach programme sponsored by this administration led by me, in the Federal Capital Territory.
“On behalf of the management and people of Abuja Municipal Area Council, it is therefore my pleasure to welcome all of you to the first edition of the community-based medical outreach holding in Kurudu and to also thank the Health Department for making this idea a reality”
The District Head of Kurudu, HRH Ezra Gomna, said the outreach is the first of its kind, even as he implored AMAC Chairman to always remember the community when it comes to democratic dividends.
