New president Rotary Club of Abuja Garki Neighborhood unveils agenda

The president Rotary Club of Abuja Garki Neighborhood, Ade Aderogba has unveiled agenda for the club in the next twelve months of Rotary calendar, 2023-2024.

Briefing journalists at the weekend in Abuja, Aderogba listed peace and conflict prevention and resolution, disease prevention and treatment, maternal and child health, water and sanitation, basic education and literacy, economic and community development and environment as key areas of focus.

He said with the increasing population, which is the cause of multiple intersection challenges there was the need to take sweeping reforms that will impact on the well-being of the people.

Rotarian Aderogba, whose tenure starts July 1st, 2023 to June 30th, 2024, noted that as Rotarians, the club will bring about strategies for peace and conflict prevention and resolution in the community through symposiums, seminars and advocacy to educate people on the importance of peace and harmonious living.

On disease prevention and treatment, the president said the country’s fastest growing population globally with 5.5 live births per woman and a population growth rate of 3.2% annually but the health care infrastructure was underdeveloped.

According to him, his leadership will see to the strengthening of healthcare system and promote disease free live through enlightenment on healthy living and support government in administration of vaccines with the provision of primary healthcare infrastructure using the vehicle of global grants.

Aderogba said: “As one of fastest growing population globally with 5.5 live births per woman and a population growth rate of 3.2% annually, health care infrastructure in Nigeria is still underdeveloped and lack modern medical facilities there by resulting in high disease morbidity and mortality rate especially in the rural areas.

“Poor access to improved water and sanitation in Nigeria remains a major contributory factor to high morbidity and mortality rates among children under five”

He explained that despite the short period, which is in life with the Rotary calendar, his leadership will do everything possible to deliver positive projects.

The immediate past first female president, Zainab Omowunmi appreciated the Rotarians for their support during her last one year in office.

She said the club will continue to do well for humanity: ” Rotary Club of Abuja Garki Neighborhood, District 9125 remains an excellence place to be, we will keep to that. Last Rotary year had been a wonderful year, we will continue to work in peace and love.

“Serving of humanity will continue to be our watch word, I am glad that the person taking over from me is capable and dynamic, so we shall continue to do well” she said.
