Plateau Attacks: Why we are reaching out to 500 families – Remi Tinubu

By Pwanagba Agabus, Jos

The First Lady and wife of President Bola Tinubu, Senator Remi Tinubu on Tuesday donated the sum of N500 million to 500 families in some communities affected by unrest in Plateau State.

This was done through her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) pet project, which is aimed at giving renewed hope to victims of unrest in the State.

Speaking at the event held at the banquet hall of the government house in little Rayfield, Jos the State Capital; the First Lady said, “Since when I heard the incidences of communal clashes that happened on the wake of May 15th, 2023 in Mangu LGA of Plateau State; this incident has kept me worried and concerned about the disruption of peace and sources of livelihood among the affected families.

“The recent incidents in some communities have left a trail of devastation and despair.

“Countless families found themselves displaced and without the basic necessities needed for survival”, she explained.

“In times like this, it is not to sit over to sympathies and condolences; concrete actions must be taken to alleviate the sufferings of those affected.

“And this why we are here today not only to sympathise with you, but to offer our modest support.

She further stated that, “The administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to pursuing dialogue and reconciliation among Nigerians that will foster lasting peace, not only in Plateau State, but across the entire nation.

According to her, “The financial support of the sum N500 million by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) is our modest step towards helping these families rebuild their lives; by providing them with means to secure shelter and other essential needs.

“I want you to know that you are not alone in your journey to recovery”, she admonished.

Earlier in his remarks, Governor Caleb Mutfwang said, “We are quite fortunate on the Plateau that Her Excellency chose our State; a State run not by an APC government, but an opposition party, tells a wonderful story, that after politicking, we must face governance.

“And governance is about the people, and once we have left behind those elections, we must know that we must govern with the fear of God; justly and equitably for all the society.

“It was therefore a very pleasant surprise when Her Excellency called that she is burdened about the troubles on the Plateau.

“And I want to put on record that I was privileged to be among the first governors to have audience with the First Lady.

“When I visited her, I shared with her about the concerns of Plateau.

According to him, “The gesture she has made, we didn’t go asking, it was her own initiative, and is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

“We are therefore privileged to be among the first partakers of this wonderful initiative.

“We we were asked to select 500 families across the affected local government areas, we came up with this list”, he explained.

Admonishing the beneficiaries, Governor Mutfwang said, “That freely you receive, freely you must also share with others.

He assured that the state government will supervise the use of the funds.
