Ahead of the upcoming local government area election in Rivers state, the Bonny local government area of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Director General of the All Progressives Congress States Assembly Forum (ASAF), Ambassador Fubara Dagogo, to declare for the chairmanship position of the council under any political party of his choice.
This is as a faction of the party has said it would boycott the planned election.
lt will be recalled that the Tony Okocha-led caretaker committee of the APC in Rivers State, has declared that it would not participate in the election.
However, prominent Bonny APC stakeholders, including notable figures from Chief Tony Okocha’s faction, have urged Ambassador Fubara to make himself available for the election in the interest of the desired development of the council.
One of the leaders of the party in the LGA, Hon. Alaso Hart, said as a party, they were calling out the ASAF DG because of his track record and eagerness to see the upliftment of Bonny local government area.
Hart disclosed that the majority of the APC stakeholders in the area believe that they would not allow the blueprints of Ambassador Fubara Dagogo on the development of the council to die, adding that they are yet to see any other candidate who has presented a way forward program that would transform Bonny from what it is right now.
The stakeholders, who insisted that they will mobilize massive support for Ambassador Dagogo, therefore asked him to seek the mandate of any political party of his choice since the APC has backed out, adding that they will give him support irrespective of their political affiliation.
“While we wait for the final decision of our party, the APC, we urge our brother, Ambassador Fubara Dagogo, to position himself with a second option by aligning with another political party, and we have agreed to give him our total support and are ready to mobilize our people for him irrespective of the political platform he contests.
“We took this resolution after a careful study of his blueprint and way forward program for our local government area.
“We are talking about moving Bonny local government area away from the situation it is right now. It will be very unreasonable if we allow the big ideas of this young man to elude this local government area.
“We have therefore urged him to seek the ticket of any political party of his choice. We are ready to work with him because, for us, it is all about Bonny local government area and not political party,” the Bonny APC stakeholder noted.
