Enugu LG polls : Labour Party promises new vision for Oji River council area

The candidate of the Labour Party in the Enugu State local government elections, scheduled for Saturday 21st September 2024, Mr Chiagozie Ernest Igbo, has promised to turn around the socio-economic and infrastructral development of Oji River local government areas, if voted into office.

He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has controlled the administration of Oji River local government area in the past 24 years, of underdeveloping the area.

Mr Ernest Igbo made the assertions when he featured at a round table conversation with an a political pressure group known as ‘Mkpuke Achi on Sunday, September 15, while explaining his mission and vision for Oji River local government area.

He stressed that his reason for joining the struggle for political leadership of Oji River is to offer credible and alternative administration that will advance the cause of development across up Oji River communities, which PDP did not do in the past two decades.

Earlier in his speech, Hon Engr. Chijioke Stanislaus Okereke, who initially represented Aninri/Awgu/Oji River federal Constituency at the 10th House of Representatives, explained that the Labour Party is fully prepared to contest in all the twenty wards councillorship and chairmanship elections in Oji River local government area.

He said there is no iota of truth in the rumours making round that LP and PDP has an understanding.

He urged the electorate to vote for candidates of the Labour Party in the election.

Welcoming the team, the convener of Mkpuke Achi’, Chief Barr. Maxi Okwu clarified that Mkpuke Achi, remains a socio-cultural pressure group not affiliated to any political party, but with interest on the economic development of Achi,

According to him, the aspiring political leaders are expected to air their views,mission and vision of development of the area to convince the people to vote for their candidates.

Chief Maxi Okwu,who was the presidential candidate of the defunct Citizens Popular Partyb,CPP, in 2003, explained he has since retired from active partisan politics.

The socio-political pressure group ‘Mkpuke Achi’ said their door is still very open for other candidates to exchange views on the reason and vision for Oji River council area,if elected.
