Kogi First Lady flags-off distribution of food items, cash to widows

The wife of the Kogi State Governor, Hajia Sefinat Ahmed Usman Ododo, has flagged-off distribution of rice, cash, and branded wrappers to widows across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at Government House, Lokoja, Hajia Sefinat Ododo said the move is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative put in place by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

She emphasized the initiative’s commitment to supporting widows and other vulnerable groups in Nigeria, with plans to extend the outreach to more groups in the coming weeks.

According to the Kogi State First Lady, widows face significant hardships following the loss of their husbands and need every possible support from individuals in positions to assist.

She affirmed her dedication, as the state coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, to continuously support women, girls, and the underprivileged in the society.

More than 1,000 bags of 25kg rice and a cash donation of N5 million were distributed to widows across the 21 LGAs. Each beneficiary also received a piece of the unity wrapper, marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary.

Additionally, the First Lady provided financial support to a young entrepreneur, Andy Ometere, to help sustain her shoe business.
