The Light Multi-Purpose Cooperative unveiled in grand style in Abuja

One of the fast growing organisations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Light Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited was on Saturday launched in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, which also saw to presentation of awards to some distinguished Nigerians for making positive impact in the society, President of the cooperative, Evang. Mathew M. Obasi, said the organisation was set up to empower the people.

“The Light Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited/The Economnic Empowerment Committee was set up with the sole responsibility of raising rich and wealthy men in Christlike manner with the targets of propagating God’s Kingdom on earth, for beneficial influence and supports to the humanity and for the comfort of their homes, ” he said.

Highlighting the cooperative’s goals, Obasi noted its commitment to transforming members’ lives through economic empowerment, fostering thrift, providing goods and services at reasonable costs, and pooling resources to address identified issues.

“The purpose of this cooperative is to promote the economic and social interest of her members by providing effective services which the members need and also through single digit interest loans.

” Encouraging thrift : This is to encourage members to save money at least once in a month to build up funds for the future.

“To provide goods and services to consumers at a reasonable cost with the aim to encourage them towards productivity, savings, investments and equal distribution of surplus, economic empowerment of members, giving out loan with a single digit interedt rate.

“Pooling resources : It allows the community to pool resources to solve problems, identify goals and eliminate the causes of poverty,” he said.

Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion, Uche Anamege, KSJI, expressed his pleasure at the cooperative’s progress since its inception four years ago.

“This Cooperative started about four years ago, it was a group of high thinkers that came together and said we will help our members. How do we contribute to the society? How do we help government in creating employment and reducing unemployment? And they formed this after series of prayers and God gave the name The Light Multi-purpose Cooperative.

“Today, we are here to launch that Cooperative and make it more open and sell it to the world,” he said.

While saying membership of the cooperative is open to all Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion, Anamege said the organisation would leave no stone unturned to attract government’s intervention.

” The Cooperative stand a chance of getting incentives from CBN, from NIRSAL, from Bank of Agriculture and some government agencies,” he said.

On his part, the Special Guest of Honour, Alhaji Hamza Zubairu, assured of his commitment to ensure that the cooperative leverage on several relevant government intervention programmes.

Zubairu, who is the head of special duties and protocol desk to the Senior Special Assistant on Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to President Bola Tinubu, said : “The cooperative mean business, I will support it. There are lot of support and intervention that many people are unaware of.”

The highpoint of the event, which attracted dignitaries from far and near was the formal unveiling of the cooperative, presentation of awards to some distinguished Nigerians as well as donations.
