Matawalle welcomes Tinubu to South Africa for strategic talks

Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has formally received President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Cape Town, South Africa, ahead of a high-profile diplomatic engagement.

President Tinubu is attending the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC), a key platform aimed at bolstering relations between the two countries.

In a statement issued on Monday, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, Special Assistant on Media, described the meeting as a critical opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation.

“The Bi-National Commission serves as a strategic framework for deepening bilateral relations, addressing shared challenges, and unlocking opportunities for collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, security, education, and cultural exchange,” the statement read.

President Tinubu and his South African counterpart are expected to hold discussions on strengthening partnerships and promoting regional stability during the session.

“These conversations will reinforce the shared vision of Nigeria and South Africa as leaders in Africa’s collective progress and global relevance,” the statement added.

Dr. Matawalle lauded President Tinubu’s efforts to position Nigeria as a strong player on the global stage. He also praised the commitment of stakeholders to maintaining and strengthening the historic ties between Nigeria and South Africa for the benefit of their citizens.
