Roads: Wike vows to connect disconnected communities in Abuja

By Daniel Tyokua

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed to connect communities disconnected from the Federal Capital City due to non access road.

He said most of the roads that supposed to link the satellite towns to the city were abandoned by previous leaders of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

Wike stated this on Tuesday at the flag off of the construction of 15 kilometre road from A2 junction, off Abuja – Lokoja road to Pai in Kwali Area Council.

The road road was earlier on by passed while the portion, Pai – Gomani which was 18km was awarded last October.

Wike had during the flag off of the Pai – Gomani road, promised to award the 15 km stretch from point A2 into Pai. The entire stretch totals 33km from A2 through Pai to Gomani.

The minister explained that since the creation of FCT in 1976 enough has not been done in providing roads which would have connect the satellite towns to the city.

He said the projects would not be abandoned because president Tinubu has been providing the necessary support that will aid in connecting the people through infrastructure delivery.

Wike also believed that with access road in rural areas insecurity will also be addressed.

The minister also called on the residents to continue to support Tinubu in his effort to providing infrastructure in the city.

He commended members of the National Assembly for supporting FCT Administration to succeed.

“People talk about insecurity because of non access road, but with good road there won’t be insecurity in communities.

“Abuja was created since 1976 and it has been a total disconnect between the city centre and the satellite towns. Ordinarily, we would have had not only one city that is developed, we would have had more than two or three cities that are developed to discourage people from moving out to congest the main city.

“With the renewed hope agenda, I hope all of you understand what the President is doing. What the President is doing through us is to connect the satellite towns to the main city, so that you don’t have to say, let me go and stay in the city.

“By the time we provide water to the satellite towns and good roads, we will be talking about having positive impact on governance. And I believe by the time we put solar lights on this road, it will look like a city.

“Be assured that under Mr. President’s tenure, every promise we have made, every project we have started, we will complete all of them. We are not going to abandon any project at all.”
