The member representing Idah Federal constituency and chairman Committee on Safety Standards and Regulations, Hon. David Zacharias embarked on a spot assessment in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The visit aimed to evaluate the safety standards of various companies operating in the state.
The committee’s visit began with inspections at Weatherford Company, Halliburton Nigeria, Schlumberger Nigeria, and Berhauze Servicing Company. During the inspections, the committee examined various aspects of workplace safety, including adherence to national and international safety standards.
The team also reviewed the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency response systems, and employee training programs on hazard prevention. Additionally, the committee assessed environmental safety measures to ensure that operations align with sustainable practices and do not pose risks to surrounding communities.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Zacharias David emphasized the importance of corporate responsibility in maintaining safety and environmental standards. He stated that the committee’s primary responsibility is to ensure that all companies operating within Nigeria comply with safety regulations to protect both their employees and the environment.
The committee’s visit is part of its ongoing efforts to promote a safe and sustainable industrial environment in Nigeria. The team pledged to work collaboratively with stakeholders to address gaps and improve safety compliance across industries.
The committee’s findings and recommendations will be presented to the House in due course. This move is expected to enhance safety standards in Nigerian industries and promote a culture of safety and responsibility.
