The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter have expressed sadness over the death of Hajiya Rafat Salami.
Hajia Rafat died on Thursday night after battling an undisclosed illness. Until her death, she was a broadcast journalist with the Voice of Nigeria (VON) and former Secretary of the NUJ FCT.
The NAWOJ FCT has lamented that journalists and Nigeria generally lost a media icon and an exceptional personality.
She was recently re-elected as the Treasurer of the International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson, NAWOJ FCT Chapter, Bassey Ita Ikpang and Secretary, Nkiru Okeke in a statement jointly issued on Friday, in Abuja described late Salami as a beacon of excellence, integrity, and professional in the field of journalism.
“Her mentorship, and unwavering dedication to truth and justice, which will forever be remembered. We are deeply saddened by this loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family, colleagues, and all who were fortunate to know her. We all will miss Rafat!
“May her soul rest in perfect peace, and may her legacy continue to inspire us all,” the statement reads.
