Senate President Godswill Akpabio, led Senators and other politicians in paying tribute to the late Senator Okechukwu Ezea of Enugu North, and described him as an effective lawmaker.

The tribute event was held at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, where Akpabio and other dignitaries eulogized the deceased senator. Ezea, who represented Enugu North in the 10th Senate, died in November 2025 after a brief illness.

Akpabio described Ezea’s death as painful, noting that the National Assembly had lost several lawmakers in recent times. He recalled that the Senate had lost three senators in quick succession, including Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who died in the United Kingdom ².

“Senator Ezea was a very good legislator. His contributions on the floor of the Senate were magnificent,” Akpabio said. He added that Ezea was always impeccably dressed, often wearing good suits.

The Senate President urged lawmakers to take life easy, even in politics, and to live in peace with God. He condoled with Ezea’s family and accepted their condolences on behalf of the 10th Senate.

Former Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, also paid tribute to Ezea, saying he lived a good and consistent life. Obi assured Ezea’s children that their father left a good legacy.

Ezea was a prominent figure in the Red Chamber, known for his effective contributions to the Senate. He was a member of the Labour Party and had previously contested for the Enugu State governorship in 2007 ³.

The Senate had earlier adjourned its plenary to allow lawmakers pay a condolence visit to Ezea’s family. The visit was led by Akpabio, who described Ezea as a man of peace, dignity, and respect ⁴.
