The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has strengthened its capacity in the ongoing war against terrorism with the commissioning of new pilots’ accommodation at NAF Base Kaduna and confirmation of incoming advanced combat aircraft to enhance precision air operations nationwide.
Speaking at the ceremony on 13 February 2026, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the newly completed Student Pilots’ Quarters as a strategic investment in preparing aviators who will operate modern platforms in complex counterterrorism missions. He said the facility would help produce pilots capable of projecting “smart and decisive airpower” to eliminate terrorist threats and protect citizens.
Air Marshal Aneke stressed that the development goes beyond infrastructure, aligning with his command philosophy of sustaining a highly motivated, professional and mission-ready force capable of delivering coordinated air-ground operations in support of national security objectives.
He disclosed that engagements in the United States, Italy and Türkiye are yielding results, with the Service fast-tracking the procurement of 24 M-346 Fighter Ground Attack Aircraft, 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters and 10 AW-109 Trekker helicopters to strengthen close air support, precision strikes and rapid response operations against insurgents and bandits.
The CAS expressed appreciation to President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for sustained support to national security, particularly through bilateral defence cooperation that has facilitated the acquisition of advanced helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Security observers say improved pilot training and modern platforms are expected to significantly degrade terrorist mobility and supply routes, especially in difficult terrains where airpower remains a decisive force multiplier.
The commissioned projects include six blocks of 12 one-bedroom Student Pilots’ Quarters, a block of six three-bedroom flats and a block of 30 studio apartments for personnel of the Military Training Centre, all aimed at boosting operational readiness and personnel welfare.
In a statement signed by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, the Service reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive air operations in synergy with ground forces to restore lasting peace and security across the country.
