Turning adversity into opportunity requires courage, resilience, and unwavering optimism. For Taiwo Babatunde Alli, this mindset has defined a remarkable entrepreneurial journey, from humble beginnings to becoming one of Nigeria’s most respected real estate figures.
Born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to Chief Sanusi Olatunji Alli, an accountant, and a resourceful mother who supported the family through various trades, Taiwo was raised in a disciplined and responsible home. His entrepreneurial spirit was deeply influenced by his late grandmother, whose business acumen left a lasting impression on him.
From a young age, he understood that every individual is responsible for shaping their own destiny. Determined to be financially independent, he ventured into several legitimate businesses while still at university. His early entrepreneurial pursuits included supplying poultry feed and later trading lace fabrics, which was highly lucrative at the time.
During the GSM boom, Taiwo co-founded TwinTech Services Limited with his twin brother, Chief Kehinde Alli, establishing operations in Ikeja, Lagos. The company operated a distinctive call centre and internet service business, leveraging innovative marketing strategies such as reduced call rates and discounted recharge vouchers. These competitive offerings quickly positioned the company as a customer favourite, driving rapid growth and expansion.
Despite his success in telecommunications, Taiwo maintained a strong desire to build something greater and never envisioned working for anyone else. Even during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year in Oyo State, he continued managing his lace fabric enterprise.
His venture into real estate began unexpectedly when he acquired a small parcel of land through a distress sale and later resold it at a significant profit. At first, Taiwo was uncertain about the property’s potential for appreciation and approached the opportunity with caution. However, through persistence and growing confidence, he ultimately recognised the promise within the sector and fully embraced the opportunity.
The decision proved transformational. His first real estate transaction yielded over ₦10,000,000 in profit, followed by another deal that generated ₦30,000,000. Recognising the immense potential in the sector, he devoted the next five years to acquiring and reselling land across Lagos. In 2014, he officially launched Clifton Homes with just three employees. Today, the company employs hundreds and has become a household name in Nigeria’s property market, delivering quality housing solutions across various income segments.
Building on this success, Taiwo also founded The Pacific Homes Limited in the United Kingdom, further expanding his footprint in the global real estate market.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s real estate sector, Taiwo Babatunde Alli was honoured as “Real Estate Personality of the Year” at the Global Excellence Recognition Awards in 2020.
Today, Clifton Homes operates in Abuja, Lagos, and Oyo State, with strategic plans for further nationwide expansion, continuing its mission to provide accessible, high-quality housing for Nigerians across all social classes.
