WLSA Delivers Healthcare, Relief Items to 1,500 Beneficiaries Across Kano

About 1,500 women and children from across Kano State have received free medical services through a major outreach programme organised by the Women Leaders Support Advancement (WLSA) Group to boost healthcare access for vulnerable groups.

The two-day initiative took place at the Sharada Primary Healthcare Centre in Kano Municipal Council, drawing participants from all 44 local government areas in the state. Beneficiaries were offered free consultations, medications, diagnostic services, and referrals for more critical health conditions.

As part of the intervention, the organisers also distributed food supplies, including immune-boosting and nutrient-enriched items, to enhance the general well-being of those in attendance.

Addressing participants, the National Coordinator of WLSA, Fauziya Buhari-Ado, thanked the Kano State Government for its backing, attributing the success of the programme to effective collaboration with partner organisations and relevant agencies.

She explained that the outreach complements the state’s development priorities, especially in tackling the health challenges faced by women, children, and the elderly.

“Today’s programme is more than an event; it is a promise to bridge gaps in healthcare access and restore dignity to our people,” she said. “Healthy women build strong families, and healthy children secure a brighter future for Kano State.”

Buhari-Ado further recognised the support of partners such as the Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria, Chaya Hope Foundation, Muffins N Brownies, D’ MACE, Global Resources, Ramat Care Foundation, Everyday Gist, and Aminata Charity Foundation.

Also present were the Founder and Co-Founder of WLSA, Madam Deborah Jan Hornecker and Maltilda Yilwatda, who stated that the outreach was designed to support ongoing government efforts to improve residents’ welfare.

Madam Deborah urged individuals and corporate bodies to support similar initiatives aimed at assisting vulnerable populations, reiterating WLSA’s commitment to extending such programmes across all 36 states of the federation.

The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, praised the outreach, describing it as a timely effort that would greatly assist residents requiring medical care.

He added that the selection of the Sharada Primary Healthcare Centre was intentional to guarantee easy access for the targeted communities.

In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, represented by the Hakimin Sharada, Alhaji Bashir Mahe, expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that women and children, who make up a large portion of the population, would benefit significantly.

Giving more insight into the exercise, the Director of Medical Services in Kano State, Shehu Abdullahi, revealed that 64 healthcare professionals—including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, technicians, and HIV counsellors—participated alongside community volunteers.

He listed services rendered to include screening and treatment for diabetes, hypertension, malaria, hepatitis, and syphilis, in addition to HIV testing and counselling. He also confirmed that necessary logistics such as canopies and seating were adequately arranged.

The outreach drew the participation of key stakeholders, including political figures, women leaders, and local government officials, all of whom reaffirmed their support for initiatives that advance public health and community development.
