Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yakubu Danladi Salihu, has expressed optimism about his chances in the 2027 race, declaring that divine guidance has shaped his political journey.
Speaking with journalists after his screening by the APC panel, Danladi said he remains confident of emerging successful, attributing his aspiration to God’s direction.
“God has been guiding us from the beginning and will continue to guide us to our desired destination by His grace,” he said.
On speculations that he has been “anointed” as a preferred candidate, the Speaker neither confirmed nor dismissed the claim but said he would welcome such development if it aligns with God’s will.
“If there is an anointed candidate and people say Danladi has been anointed, my prayer is that it should be so. By God’s grace, we will move Kwara to the next level,” he stated.
Addressing questions on his decision to transition from the legislature to the executive arm rather than seek higher legislative office, Danladi argued that his experience as a presiding officer has equipped him with executive leadership skills.
He explained that leadership roles within the legislature, particularly as Speaker, involve significant executive responsibilities, noting that his seven years in that capacity have prepared him to govern the state effectively.
“Being a presiding officer is also an executive role within the legislative arm. With the experience we have gathered over the past seven years, we are ready to run Kwara and achieve the goals our people desire,” he said.
The governorship aspirant also spoke on unity within Kwara North Senatorial District, stressing the need for cooperation among political actors from the zone.
He referenced his past role in screening commissioner nominees, including a fellow aspirant, noting that political competition should not undermine collective aspirations for the state.
Danladi urged the media and the public to support aspirants with prayers, particularly for good health and strength to undertake the task ahead.
The APC is currently conducting screenings of aspirants nationwide ahead of its primaries for the 2027 general elections.
