Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has described Senator Ede Dafinone as a respected political figure with a strong legacy, saying his family name commands significant influence across Urhobo land.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television on Tuesday, the governor said Dafinone’s reputation and contributions to Delta State have earned him widespread respect, while also acknowledging the enduring legacy of his late father, David Dafinone, a former senator.
Senator Dafinone recently secured the All Progressives Party (APC) ticket to run for reelection as senator representing Delta Central district in the State after defeating Senator Ovie Omo-Agege in the primary election.
Oborevwori also defended the senatorial primary poll that produced Dafinone as the party’s candidate, insisting that the process was free, fair and transparent. He said former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege should accept the outcome of the primary election.
“The man who got the ticket in my party, Senator Ede Dafinone, is a gentleman. They have a reputation. Dafinone is a big name. Dafinone is a big name in the Urhobo nation because his father was a senator and he has contributed to the development of Delta State. So that legacy is there,” Governor Oborevwori said.
“Senator Ede Dafinone remains a formidable political figure with deep roots in the Urhobo nation”, he stressed.
The governor made the remarks while commenting on political developments in Delta State and the outcome of the senatorial primary election that produced Dafinone as a candidate.
Oborevwori maintained that the primary election process was free, fair and transparent, urging aggrieved politicians to accept the outcome in the interest of party unity.
He also dismissed suggestions that political rivalries within the state could undermine the electoral process, insisting that Dafinone emerged through a credible exercise.
The governor’s comments are seen as a strong endorsement of the senator’s standing within the Urhobo nation and Delta State politics, highlighting both his personal contributions and the influence of the Dafinone family’s political heritage.
Senator Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, is the son of the late Senator David Dafinone, a renowned accountant and politician whose public service career left a lasting impact on the state and the nation.
