BREAKING: History Will Remember Uba Sani’s Security Move to Disarm, Demobilise, Reintegrate—Group

As Governor Uba Sani launched Nigeria’s first formal state-level Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) framework, the Tinubu/Uba Sani Mobilisation League (TUMOL) has applauded “the bold shift from force only to dialogue, rehabilitation and rebuilding trust.

The group, in a statement issued in Kaduna on Monday evening, said Governor Uba Sani’s inauguration of the Kaduna State DDR, Peace and Security Committee marks a turning point in how states tackle insecurity.

“The significance of this initiative cannot be overstated,” TUMOL Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Shehu Rigachikun, and Secretary, Miss Martina James Barnawa, said.

“Governor Uba Sani has changed the national security conversation. He has shown that sustainable peace requires more than force. It requires dialogue, rehabilitation, reconciliation and rebuilding trust between communities and government,” they added.

Years before Uba Sani emerged as governor, Kaduna featured regularly on the list of states battling not just banditry but large scale communal clashes.

TUMOL said the new framework positions the state as a reference point for peacebuilding that combines security operations with efforts to reintegrate repentant fighters and support victims.

They argued that unlike the near-exclusive reliance on military action seen elsewhere, “the Governor’s approach targets the root causes of violence by creating pathways for former perpetrators to drop arms and return as productive citizens”.

The League applauded the collaboration between the Kaduna State Government, the Office of the National Security Adviser, the National Counter Terrorism Centre and other stakeholders in shaping the framework.

“At a time Nigerians are searching for lasting solutions to insecurity, Kaduna has shown what visionary leadership looks like,” the statement said.

“The current Kaduna strategy is about strength with compassion, enforcement with reconciliation and security powered by multiple inclusive poverty alleviation policies and programmes”

TUMOL described the inauguration of the DDR Committee as one of the most consequential security policy moves by any state government in recent years, adding that it could shape thinking beyond Kaduna.

The group congratulated Governor Uba Sani, security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and development partners for what it called a landmark step toward lasting peace.

“The establishment of Nigeria’s first formal state-level DDR framework is not just a Kaduna success story. It is a significant contribution to national security policy. Future generations may look back on this as the moment a new pathway to peace began to take shape in Nigeria,” it concluded.
