Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika has called for increased investment in agriculture in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), urging the government and other stakeholders to boost local food production as a means of creating jobs, empowering communities and strengthening the territory’s economy.
Obika, in a press release issued on Sunday by Comr. Ndukuba Chris on behalf of the Obika Media Team, said sustainable food security could only be achieved through consistent support for local farmers and greater investment in agricultural development.
He noted that agriculture offered significant opportunities to engage unemployed youths, improve household incomes and expand economic activities across the FCT if farmers received the necessary support to increase production and access profitable markets.
The lawmaker identified access to agricultural inputs, improved storage facilities and stronger market linkages as critical measures for enhancing productivity and making farming more commercially viable.
He urged the government, private investors and community leaders to collaborate in addressing the challenges facing farmers and unlocking the agricultural potential of the territory.
According to him, supporting local farmers would not only increase food supplies but also enable communities to participate more actively in economic development.
Obika also stressed the need to harness local resources and promote sustainable farming practices, noting that a productive agricultural sector would help build a more resilient economy while creating opportunities for residents.
He called on FCT residents to embrace and support local food production, stressing that producing more of the food consumed within the territory would strengthen food security, generate employment and promote sustainable development.
The lawmaker maintained that agriculture should occupy a central position in efforts to improve living standards, empower young people and expand economic opportunities across the Federal Capital Territory.
