The Nafiu Bala Gombe-led faction of African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied entering into any alliance, merger or coalition with the G100 Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that it will participate in the polls independently.
The party also said former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar would not represent it as its presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections.
In a statement, Gombe alleged that some individuals associated with the G100 Coalition and Atiku were attempting to pressure the party into an alliance against the wishes of its leadership.
He maintained that the ADC would protect its political identity, organisational structure and interests while pursuing its electoral ambitions.
“The leadership of the ADC is fully cognizant of the sustained pressure, political manipulation, and backchannel negotiations being orchestrated by certain elements within the so-called G100 Coalition and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in a deliberate attempt to railroad the ADC into a forced merger or alliance.
“For the avoidance of doubt, let it be placed on record; The African Democratic Congress is NOT, and will NOT be, in any alliance, merger, or coalition with any political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The ADC is an independent, principle driven, and self-reliant political party. We will contest and win elections at all levels on the strength of our ideology, our national structure, and the mandate of the Nigerian people.
“We hereby serve a firm notice to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to desist forthwith from parading himself as, or speaking on behalf of the ADC as its presidential candidate. Any further attempt to drag the name of our great party into his personal political vendetta or into actions that bring Nigeria into international ridicule will be met with appropriate legal and political consequences,” he said.
Gombe further stated that Atiku would not be the party’s presidential candidate in 2027, arguing that the ADC leadership had not endorsed him for the position.
The chairman also questioned Atiku’s electoral record and prospects, although those remarks represented the party leader’s assessment rather than an independently established conclusion.
“As patriotic Nigerians and custodians of this party, we will not sit idly by and watch opportunists hijack our platform to peddle falsehoods, incite chaos, and destabilize our democracy in pursuit of personal ambition.”
Gombe said the ADC remained open to Nigerians who shared its political ideology and objectives but would resist any arrangement that its leadership considered contrary to the interests of its members.
He urged party members and the public to disregard reports linking the ADC to Atiku or the G100 Coalition, reiterating that the party intended to contest the 2027 elections without compromising its stated position on alliances.
The chairman added: “The African Democratic Congress (ADC) remains focused, united, and resolute in its mission to rescue Nigeria and provide credible leadership in 2027. We reiterate that our party will not be coerced, manipulated, or railroaded into any unholy alliance that negates the interest of our legacy members and the Nigerian people.
“Our doors remain open to genuine patriots who believe in our ideology, but not to serial losers seeking a platform of convenience. We call on all our members across the country, as well as the general public, to disregard any publication or insinuation linking the ADC to Atiku Abubakar or the so-called G100 Coalition.
“The ADC is prepared, positioned, and determined to contest and win the 2027 general elections without compromise.”
The statement reiterated the party leadership’s position that it would determine its political alliances and presidential candidacy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
